Which then makes sense that Volvo errs on the side of caution with regard to the timing on the FUEL warnings on at least the 40s.

It's nice to know that there is fuel left when the warnings come on... and that the indicators are not simply letting you know that you're up shit creek at that instant. I guess that's why they're warning indicators; not your now screwed indicators!
