My 01 XC70 has classic AC issues usually solved by the "breadclip fix"
The AC run cool and awesome for about 15 minutes before it shuts off. After a couple minutes switched off, it will usually come right back on.
This seems like a pretty common problem with a well-known and simple fix. I was going to use some tiny zip-ties on the clutch to solve the problem.
However... when I grabbed my feeler gauge to check the gap, I found that it was barely over 0.025. It's my understanding that it need to be between 0.030 and 0.040 for proper function.
This would seem to be closer than spec and is inconsistent with the normal failure mode.
It definitely does not run constantly.
Any thoughts? If coolant pressure was too low, I'd expect it wouldn't run very well. But I'm not sure what the pressure is right now... can't seem to find my R134a filer hose with gauge.
Is there anything else that would trigger the failure mode most commonly associated with worn shims?
it's way too damn hot for my car to only give me 15 minute of cool...
