I disagree with replacing the CV joint as a matter of policy. Ron is right that the CV joint has to be disassembled, but in doing so, you can, IMHO, readily determine if it is worn by examining it. Also, all the parts can (and should) be cleaned before lubing them and reassembling the CV joint when installing the boot.
