I strongly suggest you look at a post in the last two weeks regarding, "sardine can sound from starter". I wrote most of the replies. Mine was making dragging sounds and "beating on a sardine can" sounds on start-up. I removed the starter and solenoid, cleaned out a lot of grit from the solenoid and gears, lubricated, and it starts great. Saved about $285 for a rebuilt Bosch starter + labor. try it maybe it will work for you.
