I think that you just want to be contrary here. I'm here for free, how's that?
Your examples aren't exactly the same as me diagnosing your cars problems. OK, for free I'll sometimes tell someone what codes exist when I get a car with a check engine light and the customer's either not complaining about it OR I'm already working on it. Now, if someone wants me to accurately diagnose the code(s), then we charge diagnostic time. I know of no modern day techs anywhere who'ld just diagnose any problems for free.
