What year Accord were you looking at? Newer Accords have complexities of their own. That said, a Volvo will require you to maintain a regular maintenance schedule and in return you'll get higher performance.
The complexity comes in where there are features or enhancements lacking in another car. Power seats? Catalytic converter preheater (air pump)? Safety equipment? Variable valve timing? Turbo? TRACS?
If the cars aren't identically equipped, then it's apples vs oranges. If they ARE identically equipped, I'd warrant the Accord would be no simpler than the Volvo.
(A friend of mine with a five year old Camry had to replace three inter-referenced chips so that his interior lights and some other everyday features would work again. One chip failure caused other chips to fail. And if want complexity, check out an Audi; friend's car died on a highway because one of several temperature gauge sensors failed.)
