Wonder if that little box you're talking about is the relay? Relays typically are cube about 1-1/2in per side, with terminals on one side, with numbers near the terminals(most typical is 85, 86,87,30). If you haven't already solved your problem, here's a link to a site that might be able to help you find your part. It has a search function based on part number.
