Hi,

Sounds like you've diagnosed the problem. Replacing the thermostat should be a piece of herring cake. Go to

for all you'll need to know (with pictures!). Very accesible, but you'll need a torx driver or bit and an extension. I think it's a 40mm torx bit and an 8mm socket and extension but scroll down in the list here at brickboard as there is a recent posting about doing this job.
