What BS. Translation problems? If wheels and tires are the same word why do they use both in the same sentence and refer to the "wheels" and the "spare tire" not the spare wheel. You must work for Volvo. The original replacement of the angle gear was caused by Volvo not telling me about the tires, me changing two of the tires - on front, and then the Volvo dealer rotating the tires (I did not ask them to) puting the large diameter on the rear and never mentioning the problem with the tires' diameter. As the Tech-Net Note states, if only one or two tires are replaced they must be mounted on the front axle only (in big bold letters). Volvo caused this problem, not I, and not the independent. Volvo should have told me about the tires before I blew the first or second gear. The dealers who did service every 7.5k miles should have told me about the tires everytime they inspected them. The dealer who rotated the tires at 67.5k miles should have told me. Volvo should know that whenever they sell an angle gear to an independent that he should be made aware of this problem, since it is obviously so common and since Volvo thought they had to get this big Tech-Net Note out to cover their behinds. The independent said he asked Volvo parts supplier several times why we would lose a gear so soon, without any mention of the real problem. In any event, with the car out of warranty and the history of bad service with the local dealers, I shouldn't be responsible for the independent's failure to know everything about this car. I shouldn't have to pay anybody because of Volvo's failure. The independent may be SOL, but I am not. Volvo has not heard the last of me (or of the independent, I suspect).
PS the part was $2,400 but because it had the bad gear the transmission fluid had over-heated (smelled burned) and had to be replaced - total bill $3,500 +/-. Now I drove it 500 miles with the second angle gear and smoke poured out the back (as some others have experienced in this forum). I know the transmission has overheated and that its useful life has been shortened as a result of Volvo not doing their job. They should also take care of future problems with the transmission.
