I pull the speakers out over the weekend (thank you board for the excellent advice) and glued both dash speaker magnets to the speaker housing. The speakers are the sloted type in that there is a copper ring the inserts into a slot in the magnet. I noticed a little difference but not much. As you said, the speaker magnet is probably touching the ring or the epoxy expanded into the slot where the ring inserts (I used just a touch but I could see where the the epoxy expanded to sides of the speaker assembly) . I am going to have to hunt for a dash speaker set at the wreak yards.
