...and still no help because......

Say what you will BUT unfortunately for all those who own FWD/AWD Volvos and who are also reading all this, the simple fact is that none of us here know why this has occured to your car (my point).
I could say that to me personally, it doesn't really matter because all of my cars are of pre-air bag vintage so I'll never have to even think about it while driving my cars BUT most here do own newer cars with airbags and people who report stories like yours might be able to help here or at least ease a few minds IF they'ld give others any decent info that could help to prevent the same from happening again.

You think that I'm asking too much and being out of line for trying to pry then?

You've reported a story that's probably made many here paranoid as they're driving their car and you have no possible explanation nor helped anyone here to prevent such a thing from occuring.
