Hi All,
Can somebody advise me on this problem with my V70? Recently I had the Check Engine light come on. I routinely assumed it could be a loose gas cap (since it happened a few times before for this very reason). The car drove normally and there was no indication of any problem. I tried to disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes hoping to get the codes cleared. When I reconnected it, the car wouldn't start, and it gave me all clues of the battery dying (seemed like not enough power to crank up the engine at start, but stil some power left for interior lights etc). With the car being nearly 4 years old, it could be the case, so I jump started the car, drove to a local autro store and replaced the battery. BTW, Check Engine light went off. The car drove normally for a while, until the light came back on.
So I brought the car to my mechanic. It appears, when connecting the OBDII diagnostic equipment to run the diagnostics, read the codes etc., he cannot get it to communicate with the car. A possible reason may be a shorted relay or blown fuse in the system. I visually checked all fuses in the both main and engine fuse boxes, but all were intact. Same for the relays in there - no apparent signs of any of them burnt or anything like that. So my question is: what else can it be that perhaps as a result of short circuit (when reconnecting the battery) might be blown/burnt and thus prevents the diagnostics from communicating. How can one diagnose this problem, what to start with etc.?
Any advise on this would be appreciated, thanks very much,
Anton.
