ABS Trac question 850 1996

Okay, got it sorted -- it was the electrical part of the ignition switch. Easy to confirm if it happens to you: just turn the ignition key ever-so-slightly back and forth and see if things don't come back to normal. The failed systems/symptoms in my '96 855 Platinum were: No speedometer; no odometer; no seat heaters; no turn signals; ABS & Tracs warning lights on; "running" headlights setting not working (but headlights-on/off positions did work). If you are even remotely mechanically inclined, I suggest you change it yourself, the procedure takes 30min or so. Volvo charged me $200, most of which was labor (I had to try two different dealers because the first dealer's service dept. tried to convince me it was not likely the switch and would likely take a day to diagnose and fix). Other web sites described this problem so precisely I was dead sure what it was before going to Volvo. Sadly, I didn't have the time to do it myself; next time I'll make the time! Many thanks to all, hope that this helps others too. Best regards,
