Your power steering fluid is low. For some reason these cars use P/S fluid. Sometimes they leak from the supply hose at the bottom of the reservior. Sometimes no visible leaks but fluid low. And no, they shouldn't have had to disturb the steering other than unbolting the rack from the subframe to replace the trans. The rack/pump/hoses remain intact. These cars also use coolant. No visible leaks, but require occasional topping up.
