Designers only create to parameters defined by the manufacturer. It has nothing to do with their talent.
My comment refers to some of the American designed cars from the 70's - 90's that I have driven.
To me, the interior of many of these cars was more glitz than substance. A couple of examples are chrome covered plastic knobs and interior trim pieces or oversized graphical displays with limited information. Both are reflected in the XC90's radio and the door handles.
I found these interiors wear on you over the years versus an understated interior that does not demand attention.
My opinion anyway.
