Tires S70 1998

I was running Bridgstone Potenza RE-730s on my 98 T5M. A
pretty good tire except I could never keep them balanced.
Went through 7 in about 30K miles. A co-worker liked them
enough to put some on his BMW 3 series but he is also having
balance problems. Performance wise, they are very good.
Expect about 25K miles out of them. They get very noisy as
they wear. They do stick like glue, though.

I recently replaced them with Michilin Pilot XGT H4s. The
Michilin's actually ride harder then the Bridgestone (odd since
the Michilin is an H rated tire). That is, I feel more of the
road surface and get more squeeks in the car. Also the rear
is not as well planted through sweeping turns as the Bridgestons
(it feels like the Michilin tire is bouncing more -- maybe the
harder tread compound; the bridgestones just stuck). Performance
is still pretty good. The tires are quiet and my ride is now
ultra smooth (I have to watch it since you can easily look down
and find yourself going 85 mph).

I'd buy the Michilin's again; I would not buy the bridgestones
again even though they seem to make the car feel like it was on
rails (too many trips to have specialized equipment balance them
and often it was never a good balance).

I live in a dry climate so my wet weather and snow expierence
with these tires is limited. We did have heavy rains a while
back and the bridgestones would hydroplane over 60mph when there
was about a half inch of water on the road (very unuseual weather
for my area). Only mild rain so far with the Michilins and they
did fine (as you would expect with new tread).
