I used to have the clock/temp module in my 96 wagon. I found a used guage display on ebaymotors and bought it for around 60 bucks. This is the way to do it, b/c anyone who sells just the computer knows what they have. Generally if you buy the whole display its from a used part depot who doesn't care if its in there or not.
If you go this way you'll have to buy the switch and wiring harness new. Its less expensive than you would think, but together the parts come to around 70 bucks. If you can buy anything besides filters from the volvo dealership in the double digit price range its a good deal! If i had the part numbers i would give them to you, but i don't. The harness goes from the switch to the computer.
Make sure the light bulbs in a used computer are functional. I speak from personal experience.
My computer worked upon starting the car. There may be a difference between 95 and 96 models with having to activate it, but i don't know about that. Good Luck!
