The indy shop will then need to tow it to a dealer so I'd think that that'll cost you even more in the long run as someone will have to then pay a towing bill. The indy shop can't get any SW UNLESS they're subscribed to Volvos pay site for such things (VERY costly) and I'd doubt that they'll be able to get and install THAT SW.
I'd also be curious about the aftermarket ETM because not even Volvo rebuilds them, they know the old part is "junk" (totally re-designed for '02 on up cars). Volvos replacement ETM seems to be improved, has a different colored tag in recent months so it may be a better than original part now.
