The Jack in my wife's 1995 855 was recalled. Apparently there
was a batch that were not considered strong enough. It was not
a wide-range recall. I never saw the old jack but the new one
is similar to the one in my 98 S70.

Main point: Volvo has recalled jacks in the past.

I used the new OEM jack for a couple years for rotating tires with
no problems (I eventually bought a floor jack for this task).
So the jack is strong enough (though this was best case conditions
being I used it in my garage).

I think you should report this to NHTSA as Phil mentioned.
