steering wheel clunk 850 1997

I'm doubting it is the CV joints. The boots are fine and have no wear or no appearance of failure. The car has 87k miles and has been maintained very well. My original post references an older post from someone complaining of a popping column. I am more inclined to suspect a problem aoosciated with the column as stated in a reply to that post. See link below for the post on the popping column
