Serp belts.... S80 2001

You're wrong about serp belt replacement intervals (never has been 30K written anywhere in Volvos literature)....it's 60K in all owners manuals since about '95, was 50K before that on 960s, 850s.
All S80s (any newer Volvo) have a 60K mileage interval.
The T-belt change interval is 105K miles.
If a serp belt breaks, it can quickly burn through the t-belt housing and take it out too which I'm sure is what happened from the description.
