Hello again
The vent hose was permantly removed from S80 production in 2002. It was replaced with an smaller suction fan to the ECU cooling box.
From December production 1999 (half production of model year 2000) the vent hose was shortened about an inch underside the car. It became that short, it should not be possible to hit the vent hose when parking/driving the car hitting sidewalk bricks (also found at Malls at parking lots). The new hose was in flush with other parts underside the car (near engine coolant fan). The old vent pipe, pointed out about an inch, and was a easy "target" for sidewalks when parking.
I think if a car got engine breakdown due to the vent hose hit sidwalk bricks at parking operations -> causing aux belt to jump off -> resulting in timing belt suddenly stop -> with engine break down as result, it should be considered as a parking damage to the car which insurance should cover.
My recommenddation too ALL S80 owners model year 1999 and early 2000, is to secure the vent hose with simple tie strap, in that erea near the aux belt, just to prevent engine breakdown in case you hit sidewalk bricks underside the engine (near engine coolant fan).
