Not my work, it's courtesy of volvospeed Bay 13. The author is an actual (and apparently brilliant and highly organized) Volvo tech who has had mercy on the rest of us.
I, too, often think about the rag-in-the-gas-tank solution when I contemplate some of Volvo's engineering!
When my locks broke (both rear doors and the wagon hatch) it was fixed under the original warranty. Most annoying is that when Volvo designed the locks, they designed it so you can't even REACH the rear door lock manual plunger without getting into the rear seat through the other door. If both locks break you have to climb over the front seats or in through the hatch! Were they DRUNK when they designed this???
BTW, does your window operate on the door switch? If so, it's probably the driver's door switch pack. You can either buy a new switch pack for $$$ or play with disassembling the pack and Radio Shack's overpriced contact cleaner. See the Brickboard archives, the nice thing about the problems with Volvos is that everyone has the same problems. I keep a spray can of Radio Shack contact cleaner in the car. I think it's the second most essential Volvo tool after the Mini-Maglite.
