I have a 97 850R and replaced the clutch at about 100k miles. However, the clutch was replaced 'cos the thrust bearing was shot (noisy and *really* heavy clutch action) and the clutch was shuddering. The parts that came out were worn but the clutch plate was not worn out. The previous owner was really hard on the clutch, wjhich I am sure did not help its "life".
I now believe at least part of the clutch shudder is relatd to the throttle cable, as it did not go away when the clutch was replaced.
If you rest your foot on the clutch enough between shifts you will push the thrust bearing against the pressure plate and prematurely wear out the thrust bearing. If you excessively let the clutch slip by driving with it partially engaged, you will obviously wear out the clutch plate faster too.
If you do eventually replace the clutch, consider the rear main seal and make sure they put a new thrust bearing in. My clutch renewal included the pressure plate, clutch plate, thrust bearing and RMS. Major cost is the labour, and to replace any of these four items the full labour charge applies as each is effectively the same amount of work (give or take a bit).
