Consumer Reports, based on hundreds of owner questionaires suggests avoiding AWD Volvos as used cars. They neither recommend nor say to avoid the FWDs as used cars and actually recommend a couple of FWD Volvos as new cars.
However, you already HAVE one, you're not buying a used one! I have 136,000 miles on my '98 T5 5-speed and I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. The electrical poltergeists are the same, FWD or AWD. I'll also point out that Volvos seem better suited to extremely cold weather than, say, Hondas. When it's not in the shop it's a great car!
Not a recommendation but I'd probably keep it and continue to shotgun parts into it and finally replace it when it becomes so annoying that I can't stand it any longer, making a mental note not to replace it with another Volvo.
