K&N rip-off XC90

Well I "always" wonder about the motivation from people who slam good information. Why do they take exception to information that represents the truth? Much of the time it's because they're in the automotive sales business, and the staff is either assigned to post flames, or it's just a case of "I can't accept the fact that I was snookered".

Either way, it makes no differnce to me. What motivates me is the fact that I constantly see good kids, and good adults, who lap up the marketing BS from products like "Prolong", which you were supposed to be able to drain your engine sump and drive around the race track, even with the endorsement of a multi-millionare big name race car driver; and products like the "Tornado" which you insert into your air stream to "twist" the air, ha ha ha ha.

The K&N filter "can" technically produce more power under certain conditions, and the manufacturer knows full well what those conditions are, and that's what they refer to for their claims. In "most" of the cars, and almost "all" of the ones that are designed for performance (those that come with expensive turbochargers, 4-valve cylinder heads, etc) any performance is so small as to represent a potential "rip-off" of the customer. The claims have been toned down recently too, in case you didn't notice.

Therefore, if you're selling this stuff, you would increase your ethical factor by full disclosure, rather than selling it "KNOWING" that there's a slim to zero chance that the car will run the quarter mile in a faster time that can actually be measured. So one wonders, on a 150-hp car, will TWO HORSEPOWER really make you faster, it's probably less of an impact than the weight difference between a full tank of gas and a half tank.

Yet you see people spending upwards of $400 to insert a fancy billet anodized cone filter assembly "BEHIND" the radiator, ha ha, and if I don't periodically post eye-opening information, you can sure bet the people who SELL this crap for a grinning profit surely won't.

So I might repeat your words you spoke to me, how about you "getting over it"? If you don't like reading the truth about the product, then simply let your mouse click on something else. I don't post this for you, I post it for innocent enthusiasts who don't have the info yet, and may like to see it so they can make an informed decision. If they then choose to spend the bucks, hey it's fine with me, their motor won't blow up, but it is a waste of hard earned cash, in my opinion.
