Reuse argument XC90

I think one argument in favor of reusable filters that hasn't been adequately addressed is reuse versus disposal.

It's less expensive and more environmentally sound to clean and reuse one filter over the life of a car than to buy and dispose of many paper air filters. Clearly, a properly maintained reusable filter will outlast the OEM alternative.

Motorcycle racing experience in severe conditions has proven to me properly maintained synthetic filters hold up very well against moisture and grime. I've never damaged an engine due to intake contamination because I vigilantly maintain air filters.

Would you not agree that air filters are exposed to moisture and humidity? Clearly a reusable filter is more resistant to moisture degradation than an OEM paper filter. Vehicle intakes don't always stay dry and paper filters aren't designed to get wet. In contrast, reusable filters don't degrade if they get wet because they are designed to be washed in water.

If one is really concerned about dirt passing through the filter, one can thoroughly clean and reinstall a reusable filter as often as necessary. The same simply isn't true of OEM filters.
