Gary, thank you for the post. Timing could not be better. I came to brickboard now looking for exactly those instructions. I also have 1996 Volvo 850 and tomorrow morning I will attempt to remove the starter. Starter occasionally does not turn over when engine is warm. It turns and starts on first try when cold. At first I thought it could be ignition switch or PNP switch, but all indications are it’s the starter. Since it only does not turn over occasionally I am hoping to remove it, clean and lubricate it, and check the connections. Do you have any suggestions on lubricating or fixing the starter and what were your symptoms? Again thanks for the post.
