850 Starter replacement tips 850 1996

I have just had my starter rebuilt at an auto supply shop up hear in canada. Cost was $185.00 canadian. I tried twice to get a rebuilt starter from two seperate auto supply shops but neither one fit. I finally took in my original starter and they sent it out for rebuilding. The car was off the road for 4 days. The volvo dealer wanted over $600.00 for their rebuilt starter. Whats the deal with that?
