My 850 did something similar recently during the very cold NH weather and it appeared to be a fuel problem -- maybe contamination or condensation. After using a can of dry gas and letting it sit for a couple of hours, it finally started after cranking a fairly long time. Sputtered for a while, then ran fine. No check engine light. Since then it's been fine. The weather has also been 20-30 degrees warmer; don't know if that's related.
