UV dye is all I use to diagnose A/C leaks anymore. The evaporator is a tough one to see though. One thing that helps is having one of those UV bulbs on a wand. It is a flexible shaft about 10-12 inches long with a small UV bulb on the end. If you suspect the evaporator then pull all of the stuff out of the way, remove the power stage so you can see inside the case and stuff that wand in there and see what you can see. You will also need a mirror to look around corners too. More often than not the leak is on the other side of the evap and you will not be able to see it. While you may get a leaking hose every once in a blue moon, it is the evaporator that usually leaks on the 850.
