One of these years the pump is going to fail and turn on the check engine light. Dealer replacement charge is about $300. If you are handy, you could buy one for a VW VR6 and adapt it to fit into your car. Check other posts looking for air pump.
Take it out for a nice 45 minute drive once in a while, your car will be happy to oblige.
