report the scammer - avoiding/reporting fraud 200 1990

okay, like all others have said, only the two motor mounts and one transmission mount... i had to replace all three of mine, but only because po took the car over a parking barrier, which shoved the crossmember back, thus broken mounts...

another possible option for this guy - he's taking your wife (a woman) for a ride, counting on her being stereotypically ignorant of all things mechanical... i've run into it more than a lot, and i don't know what makes the macho mechanics madder - the fact that they got caught, or the fact that they got educated by a girl! it took me a long time to find a mechanic i could work with, and the shop is 60 miles away from where i live... he's like the other members of the brickboard - willing to listen to me because he knows i have more than a clue most times, and willing to educate me if i don't know what's going on... even though he's not fond of volvos, he and the other guys at his shop still work with me when i'm stuck...

did you ask for a written estimate? it's definitely worth reporting this guy to the better business bureau, because he was blatantly lying about the necessary work, and if he's willing to rip your wife off, he's willing to rip off the rest of the public...

i'd be very interested in how exactly would he have written this up - replacing 3 of 4 motor mounts? i really would have asked for my original parts back, and the packaging for the new ones! that's how i've detected several unethical mechanics - i've gotten back new chevy car parts boxes for a repair to a ford taurus... a call to the company that supplies the parts quickly established the fraud... i've also been given back parts that didn't go on my vehicle at all as "replaced parts"...

as sad as it is, if you are dealing with a new mechanic that's an unknown, you are more likely to get an honest appraisal of the problem than your wife, simply based on the gender stereotype bias that some mechanics hold up as the truth... also, if you have out of state plates, some mechanics view that as an open invitation into your checkbook...

here's to all the honest mechanics that don't give a patooky whether or not they are dealing with a female, and just want to do a good repair at a reasonable price so they can support their families! and here's to the brickboard!
