My new wagon 120-130

I could not pass up owning a wagon. That would be craziness.

DETAILS about the Wagon 120-130

Thanks guys. I just can't pass up some things you know. I think this is my 7th Volvo owned. I haven't had time to really study it closely because I'm trying to get my Duett running. Trying to stay focused!
It seems to be a very straight car and nearly complete. No dents and pretty nice paint. I think it has been repainted at some point. I like the color a lot. Kind of a very light pale green. Color Doesn't really show up in the pics. Does have some minor rust in spots, but that's the way it goes.
Still has the B18 with dual SUs. Was told the SUs were rebuilt not too long ago. Has a 4 speed. Runs and shifts pretty well and I was able to drive it home without incident. The suspension is better than expected on a car this old.
Interior is decent. Newer carpet and the Nice black seats were rebuilt and there's not a tear in them that I could see. Nice headliner too.
Brakes are a bit dodgey, but they eventually get the car stopped. You just have to plan a few minutes ahead!!
I'm extremely pleased with the car for what I paid. I've always wanted a 220. I feel a lot better about the 63 2 door 122s I sold several years ago. I can now stop whining and crying about selling that car. Maybe.
Sam

good luck. the 220 is better than a sedan because it has space to carry things in side and on the roof with a rack and is the same size as a sedan with slightly better rear suspension. i backed into my 220. i bought it for a family member who got cold feet but after i made it the all purpose vehicle i wouldn't part with it.

Nice car! It appears to be a '68, if this is right the brakes have a few things that are unique to the '68 220 wagons. Most late wagons were equiped with the Girling dual MC(NLA)/remote servo setup. The servo acts on the front discs only. Also the rear wheel cylinders are 1" on this year, wagons only, and the rear proportining valve is not setup the same as other years/sedans.
Once you get into repairing the system let me know and I will tell you what I did with mine, I am very happy with the brake 'feel' and performance on my '68 220. I will try to post a photo of my underhood brake setup below.

Cheers!

Nice looking motor. I too have a '68 220, but mine does not have the assist. I've just finished the brakes yesterday and don't much care for the feel. Seems a little spongie to me. I've bled the system twice and may still have air but I suspect the proportioning valves. Everything had lots of corrosion and general junk. Rebuilt front calipers, new rubber hoses, turned rotors, turned drums, and rebuilt wheel cylinders. I'm on the hunt for one new one, Olof at vintage has located a couple. Is there a time period that the brakes set in or burnish? Or am I going to have to get into the porportioning valves. I see where the assist units can be expensive, is the conversion worth the money and trouble". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Getting the servo (or booster) working greatly helped the "feel" of the brakes on my 68 220. The car came with the servo (most later wagons did) but mine had been bypassed and an earlier single type MC had been installed.
The older Girling servos only provide about 1.5X 'boost' so they don't make a lot of difference. I went with the Girling/dual MC mainly in the interest of keeping the car as original as possible under the hood, while still having good feel and function.

Cheers!
OK
PS if your car has 3 unused holes on the driver side front inner fender then it had a booster/servo. You can see two of these in my photo.
PPS Sometimes the proportioning valve must be bled at the valve to get all the air out if it.

Try This... 120-130

In my experience, the a cause of "spongy" brake feeling is the rear adjusters being out of adjustment. People also cite older rubber brake hoses.

This is the engine compartment of my 67 220

That's an 1800E booster sitting on a modified 140-series booster stand.

This is what I did for my 68 130

That is a full 140-series booster and stand with a modified "foot"
Notice that I just "extended" the original lines to meet the new 140-style brake MC.

Thank you OK. You are correct, It is a 68.
Thanks for the info and the pic. Looks like it's all well sorted out.
I'll bother you some more when I get going on the brakes.
Thanks again,
Sam

Looks like a fine example--who indeed, could pass it up? I've had a '64 (my first attempt at a souped up Volvo) and a '66 I bought to install a motor and sell but enjoyed it enough to keep driving for a year before putting it on the market. LOL--the old (like me) meaning - lots of luck. -- Dave

Looks Great! Inspires me to go out and get my wagon out of the woods.

Nice picture too... I like the similar location to your profile pic, and getting the red wagon in the frame too..

Cheers!

That said, I think craziness, to a greater or lesser extent, defines all of us. Gorgeous find.

Gorgeous!

I've got a 67 wagon and a 68 sedan myself but they are nowhere as nice looking as that!

Thanks. I put the details about the car up there near the top.
I've been addicted since 1994. I guess it's healthier than drugs?
I want to say this is the first time I've had 3 Volvos at once, but I can't.

You're right! My first 122 was a 67 wagon. Alas, half way through the restoration, one of those big stinkin' southern california wild fires came through our town and burned it to the ground! We now have a 67 2 door, and it's a lot of fun.

My first Volvo was a 63 122s 2 door. I loved that car and had lots of fun with it, but had to sell it about 8 years ago when we were in an apartment after a move for a new career. I got a house with parking room shortly after I sold it and always wished I kept it. I actually wanted a wagon more and this seems to make up for that mistake.
