Buying a late 960/90 is a bit of gamble, almost change of religion. The 700/940
cars are a big jump in ride, handling and economy in comparison with a 240 but still using the same engine. My '98 940 LPT estate has been a very economical car to own. At nearly 200,000 miles, it is still very quiet and has no major faults.
I have now bought a '98 V90 3 litre so can give you some first impressions. Six silky cylinders deliver smoooth power! It is not as kick in the back as a 760T but delivers its torque right up to 6,000 rpm, yet, in economy setting on the auto it is returning 25-26 mpg (UK gallons about 22 US). If you look up the specs. you will see that it has more luxury and more "toys" than the 940. One of the easiest cars to drive that I have owned. I am very pleased with it so far but expect it to cost more to maintain than a 940.
If you do buy one, make sure that it has all the service records, peferably from a main dealer.
