Hot temp gauge. Lots of diag. already performed. Need Volvo veteran diagnosis... 200 1989

I'm no expert, but I have two guesses: One would be that something is restricting the flow. Either the water pump isn't putting out all that it should (perhaps the pulley is the wrong size? But then it'd cool when you're driving not idling...) or there's a small clog somewhere in the engine. How did the coolant look when you flushed it, and did you use anything to aid in the cleaning?

Now the other guess would be that something's killing the flow over the radiator. The mechanic used the Infrared and verified the coolant drops down at the exit right? I know you replaced it so the radiator shouldn't be bad, however its always good to be sure..


Oh and one final thought, how's your heater working?
