It's stuff like this that probably accounts for why I'm single, and will probably always be. If some chick bitched about my car it would be over, then and there. Makes a great filter for weeding out mindless, spoiled consumers.
Since you're already stuck, you'll just have to try to make her understand that
you enjoy the car, that it's had a hard life, and it needs some TLC, which is why parking it out in the elements is out of the question. If you can address some of the aesthetics issues it might keep her off your back.
As far as money goes, the car is a hobby that you also happen to drive; people spend money on their hobbies. As far as being a money pit; it's a lot cheaper than a new car. That being said, being able to do your own work is part of successfully owning an old car if your not rich.
