You didn't mention whether the Timing Belt was recently changed.
Taking the High Idle and Rubber hose out of the equation, A one tooth jump on an old Timing Belt or an accidental one tooth off on a new timing belt will give you a healthy sounding No-Load situation but teh car will be really sluggish getting up to speed.
Did your daughter notice teh car running fine one day and sluggish the next, Like the belt jumped?
