Then you need to double check where your D+ wire got attached at the alternator; make sure it is on the D+ terminal or #61, not on the W terminal.
Steve, if it is installed right, look for something you might have missed when re-installing the regulator/brush pack assembly. Poor contact with ground screw, broken field contact, etc.
If that's all looking good, be sure the alternator belts are tight and it is turning with the engine at speed, make sure you did indeed fix the ground wire,
And if all that is checking out, give up and take the thing to Autozone to get them to test it.
The brake failure light is not indicating a brake failure, same as the parking brake light is not indicating the handbrake is set. Those bulbs just get tested by the ground supplied by the alternator when it isn't turning, and that's what they think is happening right now.
