strong running 245 lost power and died. Have some clues, need help. 200 1989

Hi there,

Have you seen another small wire coming from the wiring harness that contains the large battery wire down near the alternator?
Beside the alternator's housing ground wire there has to be another small wire that come from the instruments battery charging light circuit connected. Just wondering if it's pinched somewhere out of sight.
This wire has to be attached to a separate spade terminal located beneath the heavy wire on the alternator. It's marked "D +." Maybe you left it off? It's a exciter wire. Without it the alternator will not put out a charge.

There is another similar looking wire, in that they connect up the same way, that connects to an oil pressure switch and you don't want to confuse the two or lose one.
