Considering a 940 Turbo Wagon 200 1992

Hello, I am a high school student with a 92 Volvo 245 wagon-its fully loaded and has served my family extremely well since my parents bought it new bacin in 1992, but i would like something a little faster and more luxurious. I'm pretty sure my parents want me to have a Volvo becasue of the safety factor, something that's important to me as well, and I really like the cars in general overall.

What I am interested in now is trading my 245 in for a 940 turbo wagon-i'm sure the Volvo mechanic my family takes the 240 to will have something that I can trade for. My questions are, what are the advantages/strong points for thie 940 Turbo wagon, and what do u think I can tell my parents about the car that will help convince them to go through with the trade?

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Considering a 940 Turbo Wagon 200 1992

Jason--

I can't for the life of me figure out a logical pitch to convince your parents you need a new car. While the 245 can't provide many thrills in the speed department, it's dependable transportion and (from your description) will get you where you want to go. I wouldn't advise swapping it for a faster (or slower) car right now without knowing what you plan to be doing a year or so from now. If you're going away to college, you likely won't need any car. If you're going to commute to college, the 940 will be a nice ride, but will you be able to afford the higher maintenance costs of the turbo? If you're going to work after high school, you'll have $ for a newer car - or a nicer 940. How about a monster sound system in the ol' 245?

Jason: Take the car and enjoy it, get some experience driving it, believe me it counts. You only just started driving there is plenty of time to get a faster car later. I think we appreciate things more when we experience what it’s like to come from the bottom up to where ever our goals are. I would concentrate on doing my very best in school to show my appreciation for this car. Would you like to swap I have an 87, 740 :-) Good luck

Jason,

The 940 turbo has SIPS, which the 240 sort of has, except in the 240 it never had a name. Also, if the car is a 94+ you get dual airbags.

Tell 'em that you need to burn more rubber than the ole 245 can muster up -- to impress the girls. I had a 244DL in high skool and it would only peel out for a little bit then -- it just went along it's merry way.

:)

Ok - that won't win your parents over, but the turbo is more fun! I ended up with a 1972 Chevelle that could burn rubber all day long, then the day I came home with rear tires with steel belts showing thru, my dad was not too exctied...

Well, I don't know if I helped any, but at least you got somthin' to read.

Stefan
