ask for your help URGENT! 700 1991

Hi, Brickers,

I broken small neck of my flame trap, so the small hose is cut away from the tie body, the small neck is broken at the bottom,so I can not keep the old flame trap, do you think it is very important to replace the flame trap?

and by the way what is the usage of the flame trap(the 45 degree tee)

I pulled it out and checked it, there are a lot of small holes at the bigger end, what are these for?

also I am now use some super glue to attach that broken neck back to the body, of course that can not work of long, I am looking to replace it.

I just wonder if I need to replace it as soon as possible.

Thank you very much.

Lux

Buy a new one. They dont last long because of the environment they are in. The little filter you saw with holes in it should be cleaned or replaced everytime you change your oil. I prefer the newer plastic ones because they plug up less. Also follow the little hose to the intake manifold. Unscrew the fitting from the manifold that the little hose attaches to. Use carb cleaner and a small tag wire to clean out the orifice in the fitting. It is probably plugged. If you maintain the flame trap well, you will have fewer engine leaks. As the flame trap plugs up, crankcase pressure rises and causes leaks all over the motor. I had oil coming onto the windshield one day because the flame trap plugged up.

Yes, you need the flame trap. It's only a few dollars, and it may save you from a major expense in the future. Without it, the vapors in the crankcase could ignite and blow out all of your engine seals.

been there .

Yes you need to replace that asap, the little hose provides vacuum from the intake manifold, when idling. It reduces the pressure as the throtle is closed (the main hose gets it vaccum when the throtle is open, it has no vacuum when throtle is closed). When the throtle is open with the leak, the flame trap won't recyle the crank vapours and the engine will run poorer as it has a vacuum leak.

I don't think the leak will cause any seals to go bad. But just replace it soon.

Tip when removing hoses twist and pull, never pull on them directly.
