Help...Frozen Nuts on fuel filter 200 85

Hello Bricksters,

I have just about destroyed my current fuel filter in an attempt to remove it. On the turbo there is little room to get to the right side bolt etc...Anyway, neither bolt will budge. Using WD-40 and no, I don't have access to PB-Blaster. Any other ideas, or should I just cut the hoses and remove it (almost to that point). Have tried long handled wrenches for extra torque without success.

Thanx in advance for the help!

use an impact wrench....instant satisfaction and no damage. . .just a second on the wrench is all that's needed

Re: Help...Frozen Nuts on fuel filter 200 85

i have a 91 240 and a similar fuel filter is mounted on a suspended bracket under the car. it is difficult to get to and full of nasty undercoating. assuming you have 'banjo' fittings on a similar type fuel filter, it sounds you are having a similar problem, but your filter is on your firewall.

i used an impact wrench and it came off instantly. just give it a short blast and it will quickly loosen the banjo nut. i never had to disconnect the hoses. i was told the hoses are 'molded' and can not be spliced, meaning i would have to replace the entire hose (i am not sure about that, but that is what i was told).

Also, plenty of info on this in the 'archives' of the brickboard.

On the 200 series it is hard to open the fuel filter. I would get a can of Pblaster (walmart carries it) or Liquid wrench. Tap it after applying. And use good tools. Then try to open it.

(try at your own risk)Try doing this, place a jack underneath the wrench holding the nut and jack it up.

Don't use a torch...&^)

WD-40 is useless stuff; pretty blue can, though.

If you can't get P'blaster, try anything with "penetrant" in the title or on the can. Let it soak in for a couple of days. I gave mine a week with P'blaster and they came right off.

And the tightening/loosening trick is a good one as well. You might also try tapping the wrench in both directions, back and forth slowly to get things moving. And then, if you find Loctite on the threads, you'll need to find the bastard that did it and fill his house locks with the stuff...&^)

Re: Help...Frozen Nuts on fuel filter 200 85

Had this problem on a couple of 700 series. Resorted to a pneumatic wrench which loosened them in a flash and no damage. Just counterhold the filter and give it a quick blast with the wrench. The sockets are six sided so no damage to the bolt.

It worked for me---was sons idea which I thought a little severe, but---!!!

Try tightening the bolts a bit then loosen, & repeat.

Re: Help...Frozen Nuts on fuel filter 200 85

Thanks for all the advice. Friend's impact wrench was great...except he let go of counter-hold wrench and broke my fuel line. I'm not sure what I will do now (but do know he will not help me with any more projects).
