AW70 or AW71, what's the difference 200 1987

I have an '87 240 DL Wagon. Replacing the tranny.
Found one a salvage place and he said it was AW70 from an'87.
The little plate is missing but 03-71 is embossed on the casing.
Does this mean I have an AW71? Does it matter? I read somewhere that the AW71 is the beefier version used on turbos. ??? I also read that sometimes Volvo used the AW71 casing for AW70 as well> ??
Guess I just want to know if this is a good part for my sick brick.
Thanx,
John

I am sure it is fine. The 71 was the tranny for all turbo cars and has a few tweaks that I do not understand anyway, might be stall speed or something to do with the torque converter and valves (?). I think you can use the heavier duty tranny just fine. More important to you, is it a good recent vintage tranny and does it have the speedo cable take-off covered up since you won't be using it. I doubt Aisin-Warner provided AW 70's in AW 71 housings.

Actually I thought the little plate was missing but it was just gunked over.
The little plate says it is an AW 03-70 while the embossing on the casing in 03-71. So maybe they did.

I thought the speedo cable notch was after '93 & after?

What I meant was the speedo sensor moved to the differential in '86 240s and that would mean that you want a newer tranny with the sealing plug in the housing. I do not know how the speedo sensor worked in 7-series cars. Are we talking about the same thing?

Not sure really. this tranny was supposed to have come from an '87 240 like mine so I'm taking their word for that.
