pcv valve 200 1979

does anyone know what pcv valve goes in a 1979 240?

Do you know what engine you have? I have a 77 240, which has a B21F engine. The flame trap is VERY easy to change. It is right out in front and maybe 10 minutes work.

I think you guys are right, there is no pcv valve on this engine, just a flame trap. i'm pretty sure it is a B21F. Where abouts is the flame trap located exactly? i couldn't find any diagrams in my haynes manual. thanks.

I can't figure out how to upload an image to this post, so I am e-mailing you an image of where it is located. The red circle that I drew on the picture circles the location of the flame trap on the B21F.

i got your email joe. that was exactly where i was looking for the flame trap. is the actual flame trap supposed to be inside the black plastic piece or is it the actual black plastic piece. i took that appart and the thing is hollow, i thought there was supposed to be some kind of screen(the flame trap) inside of it. the airbox had a bunch of oil in it, so i thought the pcv valve was broken, but it turns out there isn't supposed to be one. so now i'm thinking its missing the flame trap. you think that's what it is? thanks for the help joe.

When you take the small thick hose off (not the side that attaches to the valve cover, but the other side, you should be able to see the flametrap, it will be on the side that the thick hose attaches to (does that make sense?). It is seated IN a small plastic assembly thing (sorry not official terms here). It will be right there in fornt when you look into the plastic assembly. Very obvious. If you don't have one, then you should be getting one asap. They are very easy to install (as opposed to 80s bricks which are suppose to be very difficult), and cheap. If it will make it easier for you, I can take a digital pic of mine in place so you can see it better if that helps.

ok, i think i get the jist of where the flame trap is supposed to be. any ideas of where to get one? i know ipd sells them in a kit with a hose and the black plastic piece. do you think they'd have them at a kragen's or riebes type store? oh yea, in the pic you sent me, joe, of your engine compartmment the larger hose that comes off the black plastic piece looks like it goes under the intake. on my friend's car (the'79 242 i'm working on) that hose goes to a hole on the top of the airbox. a family friend did some work on the car and i'm not sure if this person knew what they were doing, is that hose supposed to go there? thanks again.

The hose comes out of the valve cover into the plastic flame trap assembly. From there, the plastic assembly divides into 2 hoses, one goes into the intake manifold, and the other goes into the air box. I am not familar with the stores that you mentioned, but I do know that IPD sells the kit. If I were you, I would just buy the kit and replace it all, then you know it is clean and minty fresh.

If I did this right, there should be a picture of my flame trap on the hose.

No problem. Since you are going to order from IPD, you might as well order the rubber o-rings that go with the fuel injectors for a couple more bucks since they carry them. You can clean those out as well.

I could be wrong as I on't have any experience of US KJET emissions stragled models, but I don't think there is a PCV vave as such. Just the oil seperator, flame trap, vacuum pipe and PCV pipe, all of which are cunningly concealed under the inlet manifold.

Regards,

Big Rich.
