Driver's door not closing properly - wind noise 700 1987

I noticed quite a bit of wind noise coming from my door while driving >45 mph or so. It kind of sounds like the window is open, but that's not it. If I pull on the door, the noise goes away. Also, I can feel the top of the door shaking back and forth from the black rubber seal. Is there a way to tighten something to stop this? Thanks.

In addition to what's been suggested, there is a low-tech fix-
try closing the door on a piece of 2X4 so it doesn't latch. The wood shouldn't stick up into the window frame area. Then push in at the top front and back of the window frame. This tightens the frame against the body in the upper door area. Works for 240s.... this is really the only way to tighten up such a gap.

Does the door make any unusual noises when it closes, esp. from the latch? It could be that the bolts that attach the hinges to the door frame have loosened and the door has slipped or sagged slightly. To adjust these bolts, remove the trim piece located to the left of the driver's foot. When I replaced a hinge on my door I used a jack to raise & lower the door while open, and through about 15 minutes of trial and error adjustments I got it to close properly.

Assuming the door is not distorted and fits good, the proper way to adjust the strikerplate is to loosen the screws for the striker plate just enough so the plate can align itself to the lock while you carefully close the door while holding in the lock button. Press the door somewhat to seal against the rubber seals and open while still holding in the button. Tighten the screws. The striker plate is now properly aligned with the lock and the door should close with a click and seal against the rubber seals. The door should now be flush with the body and compress the seals somewhat. It may take a few tries to get it exactly right.

That's what to do if the striker plate is out of adjustment, but if the door itself is out of alignment moving the striker plate so it matches the door won't help the door seal any better.

Thanks for your reply, Jeff. I haven't noticed any strange noises or difficuly closing, but I'll look more carefully. When you say you "got it to close properly," how did you know this? What was it doing when closing improperly?

Thanks,
Joe

When the door wasn't aligned the latch would hit the striker when the door closed, making it harder than normal (slightly misaligned) or impossible (very misaligned) to make it latch. Just a wild guess, your problem sounds like it might also be caused by the door itself being warped, as if it got hit by something on the inside or someone tried to jimmy it open. Good luck--
