Oh, Mister Shayne... (armrest, speednuts) 120-130

Or anyone else who knows stuff like this off the top of his or her head...

122S 4-door, front doors, on later cars have two optional mounting points for the armrest/handle thingy -- forward/lower (only position on earlier cars) and rearward/higher. I need to mount it forward/lower. There are no speednuts in this door, so I stole some off the rearward higher position on a newer junky door.

They're not long enough for the holes to match in the lower sheet metal, off by 1/2" or more. Do I run all over town looking for some magic longer speednuts, or is something else supposed to go in there, or what am I doing wrong?

Phil;

Many automotive paint supplyers also distrubute specialty automotive clips and fasteners...often, I've been able to match them with what's available there. I don't recall manufactureres, but I can see about getting you a name...

Ron, thanks -- but the problem isn't so much getting the parts as knowing what the part is supposed to be like. I really don't want to take the finished door on the other side completely apart to find out, at this point.

No big deal at the moment, though... I've got plenty else to work on.

Oh, gee, I'm late... 120-130

Hiya Phil,
Sorry, I haven't been here in a while.
When I did this job I wanted to use an early door panel on a later door.
I robbed the clips from the upper holes for to put on the lower.
The only problem I had was after bending them off the old hole, I couldn't get them flat enough for the screw to grab them. Of course, I eventually did, but it was a long time ago; I don't remember very well.
Now on your brandspankin' new door panels from Sweden, I beleive you have a choice on the backside board for upper or lower holes. There is a perforated pattern to punch out.
Why have you chosen lower holes? I think Volvo raised them because they're almost useless that low. Then again, I am not as tall as you and I have freakishly short arms:o)

Er, hmmm... 120-130

Shayne, no prob -- thx for answering at all.

The right-side door is the older style, so I had to use the lower punch-outs in the panel. Naturally, I want the left-side door to match. It had no clips at all, so I stole some off a junk door.

So the upper clips should fit on the lower holes? I'm missing something about this... will go give it a fresh look.

Uh, 120-130

"It had no clips at all, so I stole some off a junk door."

Hmmmm, that sounds like it might be the old driver door from the '66 wagon.
I had trouble crimping the clips back down, so maybe they just fell right out.

Yep, it's one of your old doors. Dunno where it came from, but it was sprayed black. See, everyone, Shayne's wagon may have mismatched door handle heights, but his reject doors are good enough for me... *^)

I think I just need to get in there with a mirror so I can see what's going on. Makes no sense that Volvo would use different clips in similar locations.

Er, hmmm... 120-130

I just don't remember on the clips...I think I moved the clips down to the lower holes after prying them from the same door, not another donor. That was on the old '66 wagon using '64 or older door panels.

Um, I have a low handle right and high handle left currently.
The Radio Flyer is a '64 (early) with a '67 (later) door on the driver side.
Now that I've posted it here, the mismatched handles will be obvious to everyone, whereas before...
