Neutral Switch Problem on 86 240 200 1986

The neutral switch has started acting up on my 240. It starts fine IF if I push the shift lever hard to the right while in PARK and turning the key.
The tranmission mount recently gave way and and I thought that this would be cured with the new mount correcting the alignment but not so. Any clues?? Is it likely that the transmission etc pushed/bent the shift mechanism when the mount broke. Should I get underneath and apply some brute force to push it back and decrease the gap between the shift lever and the neutral switch?
Nothing about this in the Haynes manual!!
