dual DCOE-Volvo manifold fittament issues 140-160 1970

Tried mounting the 40 DCOE 32s to the '70 (Th' Mumblin' Stumblin' Grumbler) tonight; after realizing I finally needed to switch to the short studs I must have lost I ran into a different problem.

The intake ports don't line up perfectly, or seemingly adequately. intake ports 1 & 4 are too inboard by a small amount. Also, the rings on the intake ports in the head cannot be used as the manifold has a tapered edge right where they need to go.

So I'm wondering if I can use them without the rings, or am hoping to find out what some of you guys have managed. Since it looks like it'll be a while before I try firing it up again I can just envision all these vacuum leaks...

Supposedly the whole rig came off a rally-prepped '69 1800s, (removed in 1971 in favor of D-Jet and sitting ever since) also a B20B car. It's clear enough that the 'fold can be modified, at least to accept the rings, but I'm wondering if it's necessary.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.
Cheers,
-Sean
