I was out driving around in my 1998 V90 just a bit ago, when I came up to a traffic light that was changing so I braked from 45 mph. Only instead of coming quickly to a stop my car was struggling to stop, all the while making a strange groaning sound when it was working and not when it was not working. Like a rough grinding... smooth silence... rough grinding..., where all the braking occurred during the grinding phase.
Afterwards everything was fine, no sounds, and smooth normal braking. It is starting to rain although the road is barely covered. So what I am trying to figure out:
1- Is something going?
a- Master cynlinder
b- electrical
c- abs
d- fluid
2- Was something on the rotors, like oil?
3- Was a pebble trapped between the caliper and rotor?
At no time did a brake warning light come on. For obvious reasons I am a bit uneasy to drive it until I know what I am dealing with.
Any ideas?
